The CBL Professional Learning Community (PLC) is an opportunity for faculty seeking to stay engaged and current in CBL/the community engagement field. Join faculty from across the district in exploring current topics related to this high impact practice

Join CBL’s 2021-22 Professional Learning Community! Last year’s PLC offered collaborative opportunities for participants to learn and unlearn in community. Participants focused on expanding our knowledge sources and unlearning colonial mindsets. We continue to build a deeper understanding of the past, present and future of our work in community engagement, informed by critical race theory as a lens through which to examine our history, systems, philosophy, pedagogy and practice. This year, we turn to actions we can take in our classrooms to support students and community partners:

  • Fall | Crafting your CBL Syllabus Statement: Articulating your commitment to social justice and students as social change agents
  • Winter | Creating a Brave Space and Facilitating Reflection
  • Spring | Achieving Course Outcomes through Community Partnership

Each term faculty will have access to:

  • Workbook & Resources to develop/enhance specific pieces of their course's community-based learning component
  • Virtual community gatherings that will provide space for feedback, discussion, reflection and connection.
  • Knowledge sources in a variety of formats (readings, podcasts, webinars, etc…)
Participation* in the Learning Community will be added to My Career@PCC Transcript

*How to participate each term

  1. Complete workbook section for the term's focus area
    • Workbook sections will guide faculty in developing/enhancing specific pieces of their course's community-based learning component
  2. Attend 1 or more Virtual Gatherings to discuss the focus area, reflect, and receive feedback from colleagues
  3. Submit a Reflection on Pedagogy and/or Course Impact
    • option to share a reflection and/or share any updates/changes you have made to your course based on one or more elements

Virtual Office Hours: 1-on-1 Mentoring for Curriculum Development 
10 spaces available for 21-22
Eligibility: Any PCC Faculty (Full time and Part time) developing a new or revised CBL component for a credit bearing course.
Incentive: $250 stipend
To apply: After you have been added to the PLC, you will be able to apply for Virtual Office Hours. Faculty will be notified within 7 business days of their application if they have been selected.

Mentoring includes:
  • Initial Office Hour: 1 hour (min)
  • As needed:
    • Email support
    • Additional Office Hours
To receive stipend, Faculty must*:
  1. Participate in at least 1 Virtual Gathering
  2. Submit a Reflection on Pedagogy and/or Course Impact
  3. Attend Initial Office Hour
  4. Submit CBL Designation Request form based on new/updated CBL Component
*requirements must be completed by the end of the 20-21 Academic Year.
