About
For a child who is going through a life-threatening illness, you can make a difference by lifting their spirits through the power of music.
JoyRx Music draws on the universal power of music to energize and lift spirits. Our music program helps children find joy during the stressful and painful experiences related to extended hospitalizations and treatments for life-threatening illnesses.
Our Volunteer Hallway Musicians are a critical piece of this program, filling the hospital lobbies and hallways with music. This truly transforms the hospital environment for children, families, and staff from the moment they enter the building.
Our musicians come to their preferred hospital, Texas Children's Hospital North Austin or Dell Children's Hospital, with their instrument ready to play a two-hour set of music. The intention is to create a welcoming environment for anyone in the hospital space and to mitigate the stress brought on by hospital stays or treatments.
Our volunteers get experience in the pediatric healthcare setting, learn about trauma informed care, and are part of making a difference in the lives of seriously ill children and their families, while practicing their musical skills.
Requirements
Volunteer musicians must be 18 or over. You will need to fill out an initial Volunteer Interest Form attend a virtual orientation, submit an audition video, meet with CCA staff at the hospital of your choice, and complete the hospital badging process.
